When my company started backing up to B2, we didn't have to upgrade our bandwidth at all. So for us, that $400/mo they added in their assumptions is invalid.

Did you back up 2TB of data?

4TB actually.

Here's some additional information, specifically using rclone into b2.

Same every time. Seagate is great because they are cheap, but only in numbers, you need failure protection such as raid.

You'd untar them.

That is a full check. But without paying to download the file you just uploaded, you hash the file first and send the hash along with the upload. B2 will hash it when completed and verify that it matches your supplied hash. If it doesn’t, it asks it to reupload.

Got it. I was using the account id with an application key.

A more careful reading of the above linked page shows that:

So that was the disconnect.

Application Key requires Application ID. Account ID requires Master Application Key.

When the examples clearly stated ACCOUNT_ID and APPLICATION_KEY

That $399 is sounding incredibly reasonable now.

A main goal of any cloud service from major vendors is to lock in. Try to access a backup in GCP to export data: you can't.
I'm digging a bit to understand if the SQL backup in azure is accessible or managed by any infrastructure account which prevents users to access them directly...

BWT, 399 lifetime is good.

I'm impressed with their forthright business practices and openness with their platform right down to the DWGs. 🙂

I'm glad they've been publishing their stats. IIRC, they got a bit of grief from drive manufacturers when they started to publish their experiences?

I stumbled upon Comet Backup and Wasabi. Any feedback about them?

Found exactly what I needed.

"A Group is a collection of Backblaze users. All Groups have billing centrally managed by an administrator and allow administrators to keep track of the Group member’s backup statuses, B2 usage, and any alerts that members may have on their Backblaze accounts. Best of all, Groups bring added functionality to Backblaze at no extra cost."

They have a sync command as well, that could be very handy 🙂

At this low of pricing, I doubt they will be giving any discounts.
